National Media Museum
The National Media Museum deliver a range of modules from practical, studio-based work enabling students to develop their skills within a variety of television formats, to independent, theory-based modules which are co-delivered with colleagues from the School of Informatics. The National Media Museum has a fully equipped, Broadcast standard, TV studio with 4 cameras mounted on professional studio pedestals, a 48 channel digitally controlled, analogue audio mixer, and a 32 channel Grass Valley Broadcast vision mixer. For location work there are semi professional camcorders, DVCPro cameras with location audio mixers, and Avid Xpress Pro non-linear, PC Based, editing facilities. Stage 3 Creative Media Technology and Media Technology and Production BSc students can go on to produce a self scripted drama, have the opportunity to shoot using professional broadcast equipment and professional actors, and edit using Avid non-linear editing. Encouraging students to develop a contextual framework in order to understand their developing practice is a vital area, and fully supported by the National Media Museum in a variety of ways. The majority of the theory-based modules take place within the National Media Museum's Pictureville cinema, affording the students the opportunity to experience their contextual studies in the best possible surroundings. Having all projection formats available means the students are able to experience a variety of media, often impossible on other degree programmes. The National Media Museum in Bradford plays an integral role in the organisation, development and teaching of courses within the School of Informatics. The National Media Museum runs three film festivals per year, Bradford Film Festival, Bradford Animation Festival and Bite the Mango featuring master classes and lectures from industry professionals. It also runs a regular film programme featuring both independent and mainstream releases. The museum has both an IMAX Cinema and Cinerama and so boasts the ability to be able to screen all 3 major film formats in one location. In addition it has a changing programme of Special Exhibitions including photography and installation works and hosts a variety of special events throughout the year, including the Fantastic Films weekend. |
